In memory of

Franklin D. Roosevelt

32nd President of the United States

Paralysed from the waist down by illness at thirty-nine, Roosevelt was elected president four times, brought in the New Deal against the Great Depression, and led the country through most of the Second World War.

He died of a cerebral haemorrhage at Warm Springs, Georgia, weeks before the German surrender. He and Eleanor lie under a plain white marble stone in the rose garden of the house where he was born.
