A twenty-one-year-old biology and philosophy student, Scholl belonged with her brother Hans to the White Rose, which wrote and distributed leaflets calling on Germans to resist the Nazi regime.
On 18 February 1943 they were caught scattering leaflets in the atrium of Munich University. They were tried four days later and beheaded the same afternoon. She is buried with her brother and Christoph Probst just outside the prison wall.
