In memory of

Nikola Tesla

Engineer of alternating current

Born in a village in what is now Croatia to a Serbian family, Tesla arrived in New York at twenty-eight with four cents and a letter of introduction. His alternating-current system, backed by Westinghouse, beat Edison's direct current and is how electricity reaches houses to this day.

He held some three hundred patents and died alone in a hotel room in Manhattan, in debt, having given away or lost most of his royalties. His ashes are kept in a gilded sphere in Belgrade.
