In memory of

Martin Luther King Jr.

Minister and leader of the civil rights movement

A Baptist minister from Atlanta, King led the Montgomery bus boycott, the march on Washington and the Selma campaign, insisting throughout on non-violence. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, at thirty-five the youngest laureate at the time.

He was assassinated on a motel balcony in Memphis while supporting striking sanitation workers. He and his wife Coretta lie in a marble crypt beside a reflecting pool, a few steps from the house where he was born.
