In memory of

John Steinbeck

Novelist of the Dust Bowl

Steinbeck travelled with migrant families out of Oklahoma before writing "The Grapes of Wrath", and the book that came out of it was burned and banned in the county he grew up in. It sold half a million copies in a year and won the Pulitzer.

He received the Nobel Prize in 1962 and told the audience he doubted he deserved it. He is buried in the valley he wrote about all his life, in his mother's family plot.
