In memory of

Emily Dickinson

Poet

Dickinson spent most of her adult life in her father's house in Amherst and, in her last years, rarely left her room. She wrote nearly 1,800 poems, sewing them into small hand-bound booklets kept in a drawer. Fewer than a dozen were published while she lived, and those were altered by editors.

Her sister found the booklets after her death. Her gravestone carries the two words she used to close her letters: "Called back".
