In memory of

Edgar Allan Poe

Poet and inventor of the detective story

Poe invented the detective story with "The Murders in the Rue Morgue", perfected the modern horror tale, and wrote "The Raven", which made him famous and earned him about nine dollars.

He was found delirious on a Baltimore street in clothes that were not his and died four days later; the cause has never been settled. For decades an unknown visitor left roses and cognac on his grave each January.
