In memory of

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Airmail pilot and author of "The Little Prince"

Saint-Exupéry flew the mail over the Sahara and the Andes in the 1920s and wrote about it with a directness that made flying seem like a moral discipline. "The Little Prince", written in New York during the war, has since been translated into more than five hundred languages.

At forty-four he was too old for combat flying and talked his way back into a reconnaissance squadron. He took off from Corsica on 31 July 1944 and never returned. In 1998 a fisherman near Marseille netted his identity bracelet; the wreck of his aircraft was found two years later.
